In my me time, I indulge in a little syok sendiri karaoke session, if you don’t already know by now. Always fearing the day where my housemates will come and knock on my door angrily and say, “OI ENOUGHLA! YOU THINK YOU SING VERY NICE ISSIT?!!!!!”

So these are the latest products:

My cover of Lady Antebellum’s Need You Now. Her voice is so husky and gorgeous and not sure if Lady Antebellum and Lady Gaga are okay with the same prefix.

My latest song obsession from Glee! Loved the cast’s version of Like A Virgin so much. Santana’s sluttiness is so refreshing. I’m always drawn to sexual innuendos, why ah?

And from about a month ago, I belted a few of my favourite Moffatt songs from my teeny bopper years!

For those who are not from my university or my course, ADSALympics is an annual sporting event held by the AIMST Dental Students’ Association. It is basically a crazy week of non stop sports, reducing us to soggy tissues at the end of it all.

On Day 1 we had the long awaited Cheerleading event followed by the Basketball game on that very same day. Swimming, Dodgeball, Ping Pong, Badminton, Futsal, Amazing Race..all within the span of one week. On Monday would be track and javelin and on Tuesday, we hope to be done with the rest of the Dodgeball matches.

I never knew one human being could do much in such a short span of time. Ask any dental student (who contributed ahem ahem ahem clears throat) and they would raise one finger with the help of the other finger, supported by raising their knees slightly for a larger force…..just to show you that they are still alive.

Body Evolution (our local massage center located at our usual dinner spots) would be filled with BDS people over the next few days. I had my full body massage there a few days ago and if any of you saw ugly red spots on my right and left arm (bilateral ugly red spots), that’s because the china masseuse talked me into getting the hot cup treatment. Don’t know what is it lah, I thought she wanted to use the cow bone on me to ‘kuat sah’ and before I knew it, my flesh was being sucked into tiny bowls. I had a very turtle moment and it hurt like a mofo bitch. That’s why it is very important to send your children to chinese schools.

SO! Here’s a summary of our cheerleading preparations over the past few weeks. All these photos were up on facebook weeks ago but privatised to only my classmates as we did not want to show any of the juniors or lecturers what we had in store for them come ADSALympics Day 1! Our hard work really paid off with all the awesome comments we have been getting. For eight days of practice, I think we did pretty good. We got second place though Maxis wanted us to be number one! We are complacent people and it was more than we could have asked for! Full coverage on the Cheerleading event will be after this post. PROMISE.

Our first ever practice was held at the jetty in our housing area, BLM. Trivia: The jetty is rumoured to be haunted after 7pm.

The boy bridge. Initially, Lie Yuen and Sock Nee were supposed to run across it together. I was also supposed to be on one end of the bridge as an extra boy, since there weren’t enough boys in the team and the only girl who had the physique (body mass) of a guy was me, so fml. Nothing has changed since kindergarten, as Lie Yuen reminded me. Sad flashbacks of wearing a tuxedo and twirling my classmate who was wearing a yellow dress, dancing to the song “Happy Together” at our kindergarten concert played in my head. Not enough boys back then too.

For our second cheerleading practice, Maxis found a shady area near the first guard house at uni. It was a spot that most of us did not even know existed. Another reason to give my hat off to him.

Monster Jimmy actually gives a very nice commentary in the Batch 1′s Cheerleading Journey video! He explains how he does his now famous jump that wowed the whole school. SO PROUD OF YOU MONSTA.

For the past few years as Lie Yuen’s sister, best friend, classmate, housemate, ex college classmate, KL kaki lang… I have always had a feeling that she used to cheerlead in high school but would always get scolded from her for getting my facts wrong. Seems that I was right all along. She does have natural cheerleading talents! Climbing up to the third layer..etc.. she can do it all lah.

Both hands have to raise at the same time so that the flyer will feel more stable.

At our third practice, we had it at Gemilang the futsal court. Maxis was taking this so seriously, he even printed out instructions for everyone. We were so proud of Maxis for taking so much initiative that we scolded each other if any of us forgot to take the paper home. LOL.

Dinner after that third practice was at a rather high class chinese restaurant. But shared among so many people, it was only RM10 per person.

After class, we gathered to start on the pompom making process. It was a futile session as the material used was not ideal.

Long story short, most of the pompoms were done by my grandmother, mum and me as I thought it would be better that I finish the pompoms since if a few people took it back to their respective hometowns during the holidays to complete, there would not be any form of standardization. So, I took one for the team!

After our one week holiday, we rented a badminton court somewhere in town for our final rehearsal. It was also the first time we attempted that super dangerous three layer formation where Lie Yuen falls backwards to the waiting arms of the boys.

This formation was also thought of super last minute. I think the actual performance was our second or third time going through the whole routine. *bows*

The banner was done creatively by Ee Chia, Nien, Chwan Horng and a few others. I loved the glittery gold paint! We have a banner that rolls down from the top of the three layer formation. You can see that in the video!

Potlucks are fun! Can sit down and talk cock. Lesson learned: Never buy Tesco’s Whatever Balls. EVER. Poh Yee bought chicken balls and it bombed. I bought Sotong Balls (actually wanted fish balls but didn’t read the packet ) and it was so sloppily compressed together that the ball would fall apart in your mouth without being chewed on. The last time a few of the classmates went camping and bought some balls from Tesco to cook and they couldn’t even stomach it. That’s saying something considering Maxis DBKL was among the group that went. He eats ANYTHING! Back in Year 2 Lie Yuen and I bought a packet of strawberry oats and it tasted like STRAWBERRY SHIT and we took it to school the next day and asked Maxis if he wanted the rest and he’s like, “Okay.” 

I cooked Lotus + Four Angled Beans + Aforementioned Sotong Balls, Steamed Fish with onions, tomatoes and ginger and sweet and sour prawns with onions and tomatoes. 

Lie Yuen cooked her asparagus with button mushrooms. 

Poh Yee boiled rice and made soup. Her soup is much better now as compared to the days where she offered us sea water. 

Angela took the easy way out – she tapaued! Maybe next time I’ll get to try her specialty kailan.

Sweet and sour prawn. My recipe super easy only.

1. Peel prawns and marinate with sugar and salt.
2. Fry garlic.
3. Throw everything in with sliced onions and chopped tomatoes. If you think my onions and tomatoes look abit pathetic here then you fry the prawn first lor.
4. Add tomato sauce and oyster sauce to taste. MMmm. Don’t worry about the gravy, the prawn will just piss all over your dish. Plenty of fluids. 

I can stomach this.. my classmates were kind enough to finish it for me! 

I boiled the lotus till it was supposedly soft (still hard when I took it out, sigh) and then stir fried it together with chopped four angled beans and with the sotong balls as well. I usually use oyster sauce to cook my veggie but only used salt and garlic this time. CHING CHAU BEST! <3 

Steamed fish! So as Jimmy said, the fish was not fresh enough but at least they finished it! I removed the scales and rubbed salt and a little sugar at the front and back of the fish. Steamed it for about 15-20 minutes with sliced ginger, onions and tomatoes all over it. (I THINK!! You l33t chefs don’t laugh at me please!) Oooh, I poured a bit of olive oil over it too and Cze-Yin added salt to the whole thing when I wasn’t looking. Turned out well!

So the night went on with us talking excitedly about the following day’s Mooncake Festival event. Lie Yuen brought back the yukata she made for her sister Lie Peh for the Nuffnang Halloween Party a year ago for Poh Yee to dress up as Chang Er – the lady in the moon. 

That’s my bunny who is supposed to be the bunny in the moon but he did not enjoy a warm reception from the others so I had to put him back in the car.

Cze-Yin then brought down her awesome tanglung creations!! Crazy girl has been holed up in her room making tooth shaped tanglung and heart shaped and lip shaped and bunny shaped ones as well.

Suddenly, don’t know who had this bright idea to do a backdrop for people to take pictures with Chang Er. Jimmy “Picasso” Lie immediately jumped into artist mode and went about working on it. It was already 8 pm and there we were, embarking on a project. So proud of my classmates, can be so semangat with such short notice. 

So there we were in Campap looking for materials. Bought some polystyrene boards to create the backdrop, went and bought RM49 worth of cloth to make the background and also for Lie Yuen to sew another costume for Wu Gang, the tree chopper who lives on the moon.

I always thought that the Lady in the moon was really lonely, with only a bunny and a man who is so busy chopping wood in the background. But I think the last time I thought about this was when I was 8 years old.

Now at 22, I’m thinking, damn. They must be having hot moon sex every night! Only two of them on the moon what. Hopefully the bunny is of the vibrating variant. Heh.  

According to chinese superstition, if you point at the moon, you’ll have a cut at the back of your ear.

After what I’ve said, my ears will probably fall off. “OH WU GANG, YOUR WOOD!” Bzzzzzt.

At this point we were still thinking how to go about making the axe for Wu Gang. 

Flimsiest hammer in the world, but oh so nice! I love my chalk pastels… such nice effect!

We had Ee Chia over to colour the clouds. Super feng shui type right? We were googling for clouds and they suggested that I google “Justice Pao” because they wanted the kind of clouds behind him whenever he sits in his courtroom. Couldn’t find anything but I found out that Justice Pao is on facebook. With the half black face and moon and everything.

So glad that everyone helped out. We managed to wrap up at 2am, which is rather early considering the fact that we only started work at like 11pm. That includes Lie Yuen’s Wu Gang costume!

I’m missing three weeks of my final year. I try not to worry. Really! Missing out on the juniors’ orientation and stuff. Btw, I heard that the medicine people did the batch 5′s orientation..wtf? It’s one of the few things we poor boring dental people look forward to each year.

I’m having a lovely time here in the UK despite the painful prices my father has to pay for simple meals and everything is totally unaffordable. The shopaholic in me is dying inside… I. need. my. shopping. malls. I need shoeeess.(as in to feed my addiction)

Speaking of shoes, I actually saw some really nice one in Paris. Pretty colours in leather-like material and for like 15 Euros, which is, what, about RM80? Pricey but what one would expect to pay for a nicer pair of heels. Sigh. Shop shop shop. Maybe I need to see a shrink.

I just got back from my europe trip.

Amsterdam – need to go back without the parents (KIDDING, DAD).
Switzerland – totally gorgeous! Ever seen a clear river in the middle of the city?
Germany – was in the suburbs. Bah.
Paris – I think I’m in love.

And the cold weather is making me miss Chee Kiang more. Haha, poor thing only get missed in low temperatures. Kidding lah, I can’t wait till we both graduate and then get a place together. Counting the days.

So yeah, favourite city by far? PARIS! Omg.

I always thought artsy fartsy people are pretentious and I always roll my eyes at people who give up everything to ‘chase their dreams to be an artist’ but now I see the light. I really do.

I didn’t get to go see the Louvre as I heard the Mona Lisa is so small. Probably about the size of my laptop.

I’m not particularly interested in those big names and stuff but I wouldn’t mind that when I know a bit more! I went around (and got lost) in Montmartre. It’s a village where most artists from Paris go to showcase their work.

I THINK I WANT TO START PAINTING!!

Saw this  particularly gorgeous one of two fluffy cats looking out at the Moulin Rouge (which I saw with my own eyes btw when we got lost!). I don’t understand how they manage to make the colour shine so brightly, like there are really lights coming out. I want to paint LIKE THAT. And there’s another kind of painting style which I adore. I think they call it water colour painting. You know, like very light pastel shades carelessly painted within black outlines but not totally staying within the lines, do you know what I mean?

First thing to do when I get home: Buy artblock.

If I hadn’t gone up to the Eiffel tower, I would probably have to make another trip back to Paris just to go up the metal structure. Which I did. We thought we didn’t have enough time but dad made sure that my brother and I went up the tower. NO ONE TOLD US THAT YOU HAD TO CLIMB ALL THE WAY UP TO THE SECOND FLOOR. Dad and mum certainly didn’t say anything, so cheeky. Mervyn and I were almost dead. Imagine, ending your life climbing the Eiffel tower.

And I never knew that those blinking lights come on at night! And the colours of Paris at night? Ratatouille was totally telling the truth.

Thursday night was supposed to be a spring cleaning session before my parents arrive this weekend but I was dead tired from the entire week’s worth of clinics and that one important presentation, so I asked Chee Kiang to help me do a little bit this afternoon.

I asked him to help me sweep down stairs and use the static mop to get some dust off and I’ll come home to mop the entire place so that there’s no repeat performance of my infamous dirty old house. Back in Year 1, Chee Kiang did a pretty good job cleaning up the house without being asked when I had to go for class and leave him at home alone.

And today I came home from uni and the dried leaves, dust bunnies, tattered pamphlets were cleared from the porch. Our shoes were aligned in their respective pairs on either side of the main door. The previously crumpled up floor mats were laid out and the marble floor inside was sparkling for the first time in months!!

I was actually giddy with happiness! This is so much better than roses and diamonds, a girl could not possibly ask for more.

Cze-Yin even smsmed me when we were at Penang, “Tell Chee Kiang thank you for cleaning the house!” and even though I didn’t tell her anything. LOL, she knows I’m far too lazy to be the one responsible for it. Cheh.

Finally found the energy to complete the post! This is coming from the girl who still has not blogged about New Year’s Eve. I’ve also been meaning to blog about ADSALympics 2008, a sporting event by my dental faculty and ADSAlympics 2009 is in two weeks’ time. T_T

Nuffnang Music Bash is by Maxis Broadband, if you don’t already know. Gotta love all these costume parties. There were plenty of Jason Mrazes and Katy Perries that night.

So as usual, Soon Seng offered to drive. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not one of those girls who leach off boys for free rides. I offered to drive since my car was back in Subang with me. But Soon Seng is and has always been such a gentleman, so down the Federal Highway we went after his ACCA classes. He’s so hardworking, already working and yet he has his ACCA classes during the weekend. Joyce, your boy is made of stability and financial security.

Just like the time I stepped out of my house as the Slutty Joker Nurse for the Halloween party, his expression from behind his window still made me laugh like mad.

I’ve been pestering him for a couple of weeks, “So what are you going as? What are you going as?” and he’ll be like, “I’ll think of something..just you wait….”

And Saturday rolled around and he was like, “I got a pair of sunnies and you know what? I’ll go as that dude who sings the bridge in Just Dance.” You guys should watch the video if you feel lost.

There was a contest to see who could sing a chorus from any song and hold the last note for the longest possible time. After the bash, I’ve been singing randomly in the car, in the bathroom and trying to see if I can last more than 14 seconds. That’s the record made by this girl called Natalie who wowed the crowd with her Power Of Love rendition. I’m sure most of you have also been trying to see if you have got what it takes, don’t lie!!

There was a nother game where the contestants had to dance to Beyonce’s Single Ladies. Like copy her moves EXACTLY. Even professionally done, the moves are already so outrageous. Imagine it replicated. By guys. 0___0

The Nuffnang team took to the stage with the ever so nostalgic Let The Music Heal Your Soul. It is the one and only song that combined all the awesome boybands.

I was elated when they announced my name as one of the nominees for Best Dressed. Again, Liang couldn’t get my blog url right. It’s pronounced, JAY-ELLE-ANNE-NUR-LAI-YERL. It probably is not meant to be pronounced this way. But if the French can dictate that Cafe be pronounced as CA FAY, I can butcher up the english language and have my blog url being pronounced however way I like it to be.

The crowd was cheering and all, probably because I’ve got some good friends in the crowd who have mega lungs (thank you Kelz, Jen, Pam and gang!). I did my default dance moves (hands in the air, swinging hip) and ended it with a Shakira butt shake that I usually do to make friends laugh.

The cheers stopped adruptly. I think I shocked the audience on the right of the stage into silence.

Yatz won the best dressed male award. Like me, he won RM500 worth of Topshop vouchers. In a way it is rewarding because I could never afford anything from Topshop. But apparently the vouchers can also be used at Warehouse, Diva, Dorothy Perkins and Miss Selfridge. I’ve been salivating over the clothes at Warehouse for the longest time and now I have these vouchers! I’ll remember to treat all two pieces of my Warehouse apparels with tender loving care.

What is wrong with me?

I cannot put into words exactly how I feel everytime I see something in the perfect cutting, in an interesting texture or in an absolutely darling colour. Taking it down from a hanger, I stroke it imagining how I’ll look in it, consider how much I like it…but most of all, think about what other girls would say when they see me in it. It’s just nice when other people agree with you, acknowledging your taste.

Shopping is a form of gratification for me and EVERYTIME there’s an exam, the only thing I look forward to is to go ALL OUT and raid the mall after the exams.

And that’s exactly what I did the moment I had some time to spare.

During the CNY break, Esther and I went gallivanting around the Bangsar boutiques.

Here’s a quaint little place, which is called BluBelle or Blue Bells or something. I can’t remember. But they stock clothes which make you feel like you’re living in some english countryside.

Saw this ruffled top that actually came with a fancy pinafore. But it was too embarrassing to wear, so this will do.

Somehow I just don’t feel the oomph when it comes to buying shoes from a boutique. I only trust stores that sell solely shoes. It just seems more real and you won’t be disappointed about the lack of sizes.

Esther has faith in shoes from boutiques.

This was pretty comfy and I quite like the little ribbon on the arm. And the pleats are so pretty too!

A little too transparent though. But I was kind of broke during that trip, so the shopping trip was mainly for camwhoring purposes. If I can’t own it, at least I have a photograph of myself in it.

I’ve been particularly drawn to knitted stuff as of late. But most of the stuff I’ve chosen would not allow me to sit down without opening my coffeeshop for the rest of the world to see.

The next stop was Cats Whiskers! Couldn’t find anything nice there but this pretty display of necklaces by the window.

Above Cats Whiskers is this boutique called something about a tea party. Can’t remember the exact name but the pieces are designed by their in-house designer. Affordable rates for something locally designed! Everything is like less than RM90. Usually ‘designer’ stuff is above RM200. Even though the designer is unknown.

It’s in a shade of blue that I’ve never seen before. Love the white sash.

This is something quite special! Look at the lapel! it’s fashionable to have ruffles and all that, but I’m not sure if this was a trend or if it is going to come into trend. I love the big collar. It’s really different from the cookie cut stuff you get from everywhere else, online or offline.

See what I meant by totally different kinds of stuff? Firstly, the colour combination is so adorable! It’s very doll-like.

But I guess it depends on the individual. Some people might call this frumpy, some people might find it quaint.

The next shopping trip before I came back to Sungai Petani was a much needed, long awaited trip to Sg. Wang. Mel and I walked around the entire mall for like five hours. For the first time in my life, I am finally done covering every single inch of Sg. Wang, every single alley and every other interesting shops. Do you know there’s an ally with all the designer clothes (think Zang Toi, Melinda Looi etc) followed by a whole row of prom dress shops? Prom dresses – okay, fine, at my age I should be saying dinner gowns, pfft – for less than RM100! I wouldn’t even mind forking out less than Rm200 for a beautiful dress! I’ll totally raid that place during my next dental dinner. Or if any of my friends plan to get married.

On the 2nd floor of Sg. Wang, facing Famous Amos (somehow the branch at Sg. Wang smells extraordinarily strong) has a shop stocking the cutest and boldest office wears for RM40 and below. This dress you’re looking at here? I bought it. For, get this, Rm39.

It is perhaps one of my most decent dresses ever! At least my relatives’ eyeballs won’t pop out anymore in future weddings.

And one more, just because the colour is nice. Very old English.

and THIS I bought! Buahaha, it’s also RM39. I can’t get over how well it fits!

While snaking in and out of the never ending alleys, I chanced upon this pseudo lolita shop. Here’s one of their more conservative pieces:

Priced at RM69 and for this kind of style, I think it’s quite a bargain! With the tiny corset detail and the tulle lining, it’s really really pretty. The most surprising thing is that it could even fit me! Nice things hardly fit me!

If you’ve been to Sg. Wang recently, you would have notice this trend where shops slap on a RM25 price tag to everything in the shop. The downside to this is that you can’t try on any of the items.

I’m not sure if this tactic works with all the shop but on the 6th floor there’s this RM25 shop where I bought some pants and a jacket. I was worried that the pants didn’t fit me but the sales assistant said I could try it in the toilet after buying it and if it doesn’t fit me, I could return it for something else. Well, guess what, it totally did and I came back and bought a jacket AND a pair of shorts. RM25 EACH! *froths at mouth*

But certain shops don’t allow this..so good luck!

Bah, seen it in all the blog shops. RM25 only and most of them are selling for RM40..RM50….

And what shopping trip is complete without looking at shoes?

Ended up buying the black pumps. Was torn between the black and the brown. Black more professional, brown is different, so vanilla-ey different that it’s common.  Everyone wants to be different and go with the brown. Ho-hum.

I bought another pair of wedges from Vincci. Very pretty! Dirty green with gold buckles and a gold coated wedge-heel. I thought it would make good sense to get a pair of wedges for those night outs spent dancing. I usually get into a huff when my feet start to ache and Gaya told me that wedges can save the day!

And because I went to Queensbay to meet a customer last weekend (and she bought RM100 worth of stickers! Whee!), Lie Yuen and I ended up spending the entire day at the mall along with my RM100.

There’s this Jappy shop just before Nichii on the boutiques’ floor and the lady there said that they were having post-CNY sales and that it is “always like that”. I was gawking at disbelief when I saw this rack that said “70% off!”

This orange top is RM39.90 BEFORE discount. Good lord. I bought it. FOR RM11!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I bought another dress from this place too for RM17, but photos later on in this post.

A new boutique has opened next to Nichii (left hand side neighbour) and the clothes there are super super cheap too. RM40 and below. I can’t vouch for the quality but it seems thick and alright to me. Here’s a black eyelet dress which was RM35.

A teal dress that was too tight for me. But it’s quite nice right! RM35 also.

I totally regret not getting this top! RM34 only and I chose the white one instead..sob sob. Should have gotten it in pink too.

Don’t really like the cutting of this dress but for the sake of camwhoring…bolehlah…

I bought this too! I think it was about RM36. Something comfy and dressy enough. It’s quite stretchy.

Brenda and I agreed that the best Forever 21 we have ever seen is in Queensbay. The KL ones somehow are not as enticing as the one there as they stock more dressy stuff in their Bargains section.

Here I am with another knitted number. Tad too short, but as long as I’m standing up, everything will be okay, men will not do badly in business, children will not go blind.

I like this one! It’s awesome for night outs but not at the price tag of RM99. No.

I deemed it too common as any other girl would probably already own something like that. I really really liked the material though. Those embellishments are not just bronze/gold ones but gems which shine quite well.

Our day ended at Kim Gary, where Lie Yuen treated me to dinner.

We decided to sleep while waiting for the food. We were far too tired after a particularly long week of 9am-5pm full days.

And faux pearls! Wanted these for the longest time. It would have gone really well with my dental dinner ensemble but every other pearl necklace i saw was over RM100. This was only RM17. Yes, correct. RM17 from FOREVER21!!!

Nah, my RM11 dress-top. It’s good for those casual meet-ups. It’ll probably end up on the list of Jolene’s Most Worn Items. Like my purple colour long tank top (which I bought in green and black too.) or any of my comfy baby tees and this three quarter pants that I wear ALL the time. Oh yeah, my jeans too.

Must think about how to look more decent in this piece… but for Rm17, many things can be done at a later date. Buy first, think later.

If you’re a true blue online Malaysian shopaholic, you would have heard of Fleur De Lis, jointly organized by Shirts4Real and A Shopaholics Den. Esther and her friends Jan, Brian and Sze May to name a few, are the people behind Shirts4Real! Can’t believe one of my bestest friend in the whole wide world organized a bazaar! And this was her first time at a bazaar too!

A Shopaholics Den has a strong presence in the Malaysian blogshop community and thus publicity was a breeze! But if you’re organizing a flea market and you invite blogshops to come open stalls at your bazaar, lifestyle ezines such as TongueChic, Emmagem or other famous blogshop review sites will pick it up and promote for you! But never be greedy with your rentals, RM80 should be the cut off.

I was wondering if it would be a mistake to drag Chee Kiang there… but he even bought a shirt! Haha. Anyway, this is too ancient, so I can’t really remember what else happened that night.

As it was a real house, there were many convenient places for the sellers to hang their wares.

He totally enjoyed being the only male at any given room.

Sigh, I’m so happy to be part of this era where bazaars and flea markets are all the rage and it’s still quite underground where young people open stalls at bazaars organized by equally young people.

This is Jan, who poured his sweat and blood into making the event a success. Shirts4Real is going places!

I bumped into Eliza from Phatculture. I was introduced to her partner, but as we all know how bloody ancient my posts are these days, I’ve already forgotten her name. I’m SO SORRY!!

Awww, isn’t Eliza cute? Eliza and I were blogger friends from way back in 2005/2006. So she’s an old timer like me. We met for the first time that night.

Since Esther was part of the organizing committee, Chien and Min Dee came to give their support and bought a bag each! I spent about RM150 there.

These were the lucky vendors who did not have to cram inside the house with the rest of the sellers.

Another super long ago thing that happened was when Sook Mei, one of my Year 3 juniors, asked me to take a puppy in my car back to KL. This puppy, whose name is Noobie, but whom I christianed Bolt for the two days it was with me, was from a litter of puppies by a pair of husband and wife strays. It’s pretty good looking for a stray dog, don’t you think?

Poor little Noobie actually has two other siblings and of course, a mum and a dad. But one afternoon when my juniors were at uni, the MPSP (Majlis Perbandaran Sungai Petani) people came by and kidnapped two puppies and the two adult dogs. Noobie and his brother, Stupidoo (yea. I know.) were hiding under a dust pan at that time and were safe from the evil MPSP dog takers. Sounds like a Disney Pixar movie plot. This is when the two dog brothers would start talking with teenage boys’ voice

He’s quite the poser too! Since that bunch of juniors were afraid that the MPSP dognappers will come back for the rest, they put the two puppies at another classmates’ house. This house has three floors and it houses six boys. So just imagine lah, six guys taking care of two puppies, you’d think it’s all a bowl of dog biscuits once every three days with dog biscuits strewn all over the kitchen and five days old dog poo.

Which would probably happen if the puppies stayed with me. Thank god hamster poo is almost invisible!

If you’ve seen my other posts, you might remember names such as Melvin, Tee Lun, Samuel, CY, Ken and Kelvin. All these manly boys are the daddies and mummies to the two pups!

CY is the one who feeds them and scolds them! I think he bathes them too!

Samuel will be following behind with a mop to clean up any peepee or poopoo.

Tee Lun, whom I thought would have nothing to do at all with the two dogs, actually goes to sleep with the puppies on his bed!

And boys being boys, they couldn’t be bothered with names so they simply called the two pups Stupid and Noob. Then Ei Leng dropped by and gave it a feminine twist, Stupidoo and Noobie!

December usually means everyone’s home for the holidays! From UK, Us, Aussie…they were all home.

Save for Abby, Liss, Amanda and Mel (who was in Australia visiting her…wait for it..FIANCE!), the other seven of us Dahlings met up for dinner on Christmas day.

So yeah, a few days before Christmas, all of us got the same message from an Aussie number, “HE PROPOSED!!!”

And that picture is us, drinking Ocha to Mel’s engagement to a Dahling-approved Tim Murphy. Her kids are going to be gorgeous! The wedding’s not until 2012, so hold your horses! You may go to her facebook and comment on the photo of her engagement ring if you wanna send your love.

It’s been so long since we’ve had pictures of us together. She Dee still can’t surf even though she’s been in Hawaii for two years now! Esther has graduated and I know it’s so mean of me, but i hope she doesn’t get a job too soon or else there won’t be anyone to play with me when I go home to Subang!! People from school would know that my cleavage have been used as storage space for a few other things. Hand phones, liquid papers…. etc. When I say hand phones, I’m talking about the trusty hardy big ass Nokia 3310.

When I look at Min Dee I think about the ceramic plate she brought over for Christmas 2007, which I keep promising to return. Argh. Min Dee is living the corporate (intern) life, enjoying life in HK. I want to go to HK too~~ T__T

I’ll be losing one of my best friends to that melting pot (salad bowl?) called Singapore.

She’ll go there and produce many stressed out kids with Mr. Shawn!

After leaving Pyramid, Chee Kiang told me he was at McD’s Drive Thru with Gaya, Wern Cheen and Eu Foh. They were all my form4-5 classmates and I’ve not seen them in quite a long time. In form4 we all sat at the back of the class doing our own thang while the teacher rambles on in front.

We adjourned to Gaya’s place that night where we updated each other about whatever we knew about anyone from Subang Utama. There were some shockers.. but for fear of getting chopped into bits by the subjects (and I mean this literally), I’d better not say.

Wern Cheen laughed about our ex class teacher who only taught our class Agama Islam. This means that we got away with quite a lot of things, or so we thought. During open day, our teacher told Wern Cheen’s mum, “Ah……Wern Cheen kini dalam alam percintaan.” Seems like he knows quite a bit about Wern Cheen’s love life.

I didn’t get away too easily too! My class teacher told my mum, “Aahh.. Ini Lai Pei Shan selalu bersama itu Lam Chee Kiang. Belajar dulu…” and I’m all, “Wat…”. I looked at my mum and she sniggered. -_-”

When Brenda was down from Penang, we went to Sg. Wang and met up with Sohpoh whose real name is Lee Peng. But we were so used to calling her Sohpoh, we kind of forgot her real name. Haha, I was quite sure it was something Peng.

Sohpoh is our mutual online friend whom we met via both our blogs. We got acquainted because she is a dental student as well! She’s a semester younger than us and is currently pursuing her fourth year in Australia.

We compared disgusting dental stories but we were most horrified by one case:

One of her seniors accidentally drilled into the floor of the mouth and the bur got stuck there. To remove the bur, they had to set it to spin anticlockwise (or opposite of whichever direction it was). How traumatizing for the student and the patient!

Though it was the first time we met Sohpoh in person, we got on like a house on fire! A particularly memorable part of the whole thing was when I cajouled them to come into a sex shop with me.

Yep, that’s right. There’s a sex shop in Sg. Wang and not just some lame candy store that sells happy looking condoms and other paraphernalia laced with sexual inuendos. Trivia: I was kicked out of I Need House when I was 16, posing as a 19 year old.

So anyway, we sauntered in, acting cool. Go in sex shop must act cool one okay, cannot giggle like you’re young. Or not later they asked for IC.

But we ended up giggling anyway when we spotted a long curved dildo kind of thingamajig that was called “Double Trouble Slender Bender”. But they didn’t ask for our IC even though we acted like total juveniles. I must menyerah kepada takdir already that nobody will ever ask for my ID ever.

Go into casino also nobody stop me, go into club also like that, go into sex shop and act like a kid, still nothing. *squirts antiwrinkle cream and rubs on cheek sadly*

It was quite awkward as the shop was totally empty and only three of us went in. It was manned by about 5 guys to add on to the awkwardness. And if things weren’t awkward enough, one of the guys was being a hard sell.

Back to the story about the long rod that was called Double Trouble Slender Bender. The sales assistant saw us looking at it and went on to say, “Aaaahh.. boys and girls also can! This is about the night where we duped by a very misleading message that Gaya received.

A friend of her’s texted her saying, “I’m planning for a glamourous, classy, sophicated night at *some bar at Starhill*. Free drinks for the ladies till 1am!”

Thinking that we had to follow some kind of theme, she roped the two of us to join her and dressed up for what sounded like a promising event with free drinks.

Since we were still early, we decided to head across to Pavillion and grab a bite. Maklumlah, we wanted to arrive fashionably late. Ahem.

I think it was sometime after this photo when she got another text from her friend.

“Seems a little dead here. We’re heading over to Changkat Bukit Bintang. Feel free to join us!”

It seemed a *little* weird that someone who was organizing an event, would walk out on it because it was dead!? After analyzing earlier messages, we realized that the guy was actually asking Gaya to bring some friends to join them on a glamourous, classy and sophisticated night out. And then the bar was too boring for him, he adjourned to Changkat with his friends.

It’s only normal for normal people like us to think it was an event and dress up like fools, anticipating an event with free drinks.

LOL we decided we might as well make the most of it and went to the bar anyway. It was super dead but we had fun camwhoring with the beautiful furnitures around that bar.

The bar had an interesting concept. Curved and open air, so I got a little sweaty.

I was distracted by the pretty lights which changed colours every few seconds.

I was especially enthralled by the strands of fibre optics which looked like a glowing chiffon curtain.

There was an enclosed area within the bar which was off limits to normal guests like you and me. We went in anyway, who cares.

Better camera, better hair, better make-up, better lighting would make for a nicer photoshoot. Really love the setting of the place. It just oozes luxury.

Su Ann came up with this ingenious idea of a couple meme last month and the questions are all so intriguing – things you can’t actually ask your boyfriend for fear of appearing too nosy or sounding like a broken tape recorder (“So what is it about me that you like?” “What did you think of me when we first met?). These questions are usually replied by a roll of the eyes and a sing-song reply. And if verbally also, I wouldn’t be able to remember the answers in years to come! But thanks to Su Ann’s meme, I now have it in a .DOC file, immortal in my computer and my blog FOREVER! 

I actually had some hesistations to stress him out with the task of endless questions with answers that needs to becarefully crafted, since my period is not over yet.

I know the 14 year old Chee Kiang had no qualms answering all those “personality questions” that I used to forward to all my friends back in form2. He would be one of the first ones to reply and join all those eGroups(anyone remember those!?) that I’ve set up for my schoolmates almost 10 years ago. I can remember his nicknames: AdBrennanLam! Hehe.

In one of the “personality questions” forwarded emails, it was a questionnaire that he had to fill up regarding me. I can only remember one thing from it, he said that when he first met me, he thought of me as that “Fair girl.” Fair enough.

I suppose he had his growth spurt early and was one of the tallest boys in form1. He was a librarian, just like me! I didn’t know him but just saw him around school for that entire year. It was only in early form2(Year 2000) when we were both seated at the computers at the library, keying in some information, that we met. I was on some SMKSU Students’ ICQ Number Collecting spree and said, “hey, can I have your ICQ number?”. So it sounds more like I picked him up, haih. He always says hi to me in a very friendly way whenever we bump into each other around school.

I once said, “We must have a maid next time.”

Adorably lame. He only has two sides to him: Tired Chee Kiang and Adorable Lame Chee Kiang. I guess the former is when he’s sleepy and the latter is when he’s happy.

what’s s/he like at work/school?:

He tells me he sits with Leong Hui, Eng Hooi and Adeline in class and sometimes sleep. But I know he is very active in extracurricular stuff and is quite in demand to fill up responsibility-laden jobs.

describe his/her room:

It changes almost every year! As of now he is very proud that his room is windy as it is facing the courtyard of his hall. A bar is at one side of the room to hang towels and clothes, and on the other side, a 2.5 meters long table connected to a two-level horizontal book shelf. A narrow floor to ceiling wooden wardrobe with a full length mirror inside is in one corner. His spray painted red laptop sits on the long table connected to speakers he bought at a PC fair in Singapore. A long corkboard is filled with assignment stuff, schedules, letters from his duties as a busy committee member of various societies, and some thank you notes from people he has helped out for projects and events. His bed has a pillow, a bigger square cushion, a Tigger puppet who is wearing a Romanian virgin boy hat, a kangaroo and some books plus our Pixart photo album. 

what’s his/her best friend like?:

Back in Subang, he has three great guy friends = Daryl, Justin and JonOoi. Daryl and Justin are his kakis from the good ol’ Leo days, they tried Shisha together, bought beer cans together for the first time, gone on awesome PD trips and so much more. His two other best friends are Nadine and Gaya, whom he enjoys hanging out with for their free spirited ways.  

In Singapore, his best friends are Chun Leen, JonSiow, Tiang Lim, Karthik, Eng Hooi and Leong Hui to name a few. Those are also the ones I see more when I go to Singapore. I like them all because they are very down to earth and can talk cock. He also enjoys hanging out with Wen Jia and Wei Ming, two of which I hardly know. He also has Razia, Winnie etc from his Radiopulze gang who are super funny.

Someone independent, open minded, wild, strong and can kick ass! I don’t know how many of those criterias I can fill. This is based on the kind of girls he has liked before me. And also girls that he has been close to over the years.

His NS belt which he wears as a normal belt all the time. I already stole it from him when my one and only belt broke in Singapore. Then I lost it.

The obvious and materialistic answer would be the white gold heart pendant with diamonds he gave me for our 4th anniversary. (I didn’t even know we were exchanging gifts. This was in form4, when he was the president for the Leo Club, running up and down doing manly responsible things during the IU day. Him in his blazer and looking all serious and in-charge. Sigh Sigh. Also, when he does the Chee Kiang smile. It’s not a normal smile but more like an act-cute one. About six new lines will appear on his face and two existing lines will deepen.

what’s something about him/her that would surprise all of his/her friends?: 

I’m not sure if all his friends have seen it, but my boy can DANCE! I’ve never seen him on the dance floor (ya strange right..after four years of dating) till a few weeks ago, but I’m proud to say he can!

what do you love most about him/her?:

The way he treats my mood like a floating balloon – always trying to keep it up and not let it touch the ground. I also love the fact that he is a simple man, someone who has no in between lines for me to read, and someone whom I know that I will want to have a family with and not feel scared of him wandering away.

She was one of the few people whom I see around in school quite often, perhaps attributed to her good social networking skills, or rather skills in the making. We chanced upon at a local country-club(Jo: Holiday Villa!) like venue during Secondary 2, where I was just about to depart from my weekend squash practice, while she was signing in for her swimming session. We exchanged glances and smiled at each other, knowing that we have seen each other before. Within the next few days, our paths collided again as we were sitting next to each other at the school library being coerced to help the school in a failed attempt to go “e-library”. There was where I had my first pick-up line “Can I have your ICQ number?”

On a side note, I only had two contacts on my ICQ then. That was how confused and conflicting my life was in the heydays of secondary school. For your information, the two contacts are my brother, and Guan Lim (Jo don’t forget to link GL’s blog on his name!)

what makes him/her happy?:

Keeping in touch with all her close friends i.e. knowing the latest happenings/gossips about each other and third parties related to them; being involved in the blogging community (although her happiness here is diminishing); her dog (although the response from Angel is rather insignificant); Hollywood TV series with a sort of dark humor e.g. desperate housewives, arrested development, family guy; TVB Drama; and like most females, chick-flick/happy-ending/warranted love plots kind of movies.

(Jo: Ya Angel super like to act-cute with him. But to me she’s just so damn aloof!) 

what makes him/her sad?:  

Thoughts of friends and family (including dog) passing, getting bad grades (also diminishing), that time of the month, when we don’t get to see each other despite being in the same country.

Pushy christians who try to “save” her from the “dark side”; customers who are either late in payment, or are flip-flop minded with their orders; people who stood her up at the last minute (she doesn’t tell you but oh she will bitch about it!); people who are half past six and with no backbone;  

what excites him/her?:

At one time it was Douglam Lim, the local actor who starred in Kopitiam; anything that has glitter attached to it; getting tagged on Facebook; meeting up with close friends and family; dental-practice knowledge; traveling to Hong Kong;

(Jo: hahaha NOooo He is the one who gets happy when people tag him on Fb! and Dear, you forgot about my endless desire to go to Bangkok!) 

what’s s/he like at home?:

She is bubbly and can carry out a conversation with her family members without hesitation. The conversations include Asian-sensitive topics like sex, sex and more sex! (Jo: :X ooops! Hamsap jokes lah!) Her personality changes when that time of the month comes, and also when triggered by third parties e.g. being flamed online, and stalked by Pushy Christians. Other than that, she is most of the time cheerful and always ready for a conversation.

what’s s/he like at work/school?:

She hangs out with her dental darlings e.g. housemates Lie Yuen and Sze Yin, Poh Yee, Nien, Brenda, and Susan. The class is rather gender divided, but both sexes can socialize real well when brought together during social events such as birthdays, gala dinners, and the great Penang night out!

In terms of her studies, she is a very nocturnal person. She likes to study with her laptop on, and rarely hits the library as she prefers studying at home.

For her class, she acquires lecture slides from the lecturers by taking photos of the lecture slides, and posting them on the facebook group! She is also the Secretary for the Dental Society/Dental Council of her university. 

describe his/her room:

The Sungai Petani one is a master bedroom! Equipped with an air-conditioner, there is a bed situated in the middle of the room, with the study/working table next to the bed. She sleeps on two layers of mattresses, the thicker and more comfortable one on top. There are some soft toys scattered on or around the bed, with Priya the Pink Tofu getting quite the attention. 

On the study/work table you will find her laptop, a table lamp, printer-cum-scanner, an extension wire, phone charger, a weighing machine for her sticker business, an electric kettle, a water bottle, documents and notes related to her work and studies!

On the other side of the bed, there are a few containers storing items she accumulated throughout her years in dentistry. Her containers have cute cartoon characters on the surface, one has some tofu like characters attempting to eat each other or something. A full bodied wall-mirror stands next to the containers.

There are a few shelves behind her study/work table. These shelves store her books and notes from dentistry, some cleo/female magazines. On one of the shelves, there is a ferris-wheel picture stand with no photos, but there is also a picture stand with her and Lie Yuen in it! On the wall next to this photo is a collage I made for her during our 3rd year anniversary! (Jo: there’s also a photo of you and me!)

There is an attached bathroom of course. She is the proud owner of a heater in the house, and has the highest water pressure for bathing among her housemates! Outside the bathroom, there is a considerably small wardrobe, which I have not explored yet =p (Jo: doors to the wardrobes are closed at all times as the clothes will spill out one!)

Behind the door is some clothes hanger, with a pin board hanging on it. Next to the door is also a laundry basket and a place to hang her clothes.

Oh who can forget her hamsters running around in the cage? The cage changes position, sometimes next to the shelves, sometimes near the bathroom, sometimes in the bathroom itself!

(Jo: When they are noisy I put them in the bathroom! But the echo-ed squeaks are kind of creepy.)

what’s his/her best friend like?:

In Subang, she is a member of the “Dahlings” – they are Esther, Mun Teng, Melody, Su-Chien, Su-Hsien, She Dee, Min Dee, Melissa, Abby, Amanda etc. She never fails to meet up with them whenever possible. They have been together since secondary school, but departed their separate ways for university and work. However, their closeness and bond are so strong that sometimes it impresses me! I guess a bundle of bamboo is stronger than a single one by itself (this analogy is not appropriately used here, but you get the idea). Of course there are the guys as well e.g. Kwo Kuang, E Guy, Yi Jin, Nigel, Marcus, Ji Yang, Kevin, Adrian etc. 

In Dentistry, her pals are definitely Lie Yuen, Cze Yin, Brenda, Nien, Poh Yee and Susan. As mentioned too, there are other guys in the social network as well.

Let’s not forget her vast social network from her Interact Club days to her current Blogging scene. I would like to name a few but I shall stop in case some bloggers get offended from not being in the list.

Her socializing skills! When she wants it, she gets it! Talking to people that is. She is also good at digging out information from people (in a good way that is!), even though they just met. Somehow, people who read her blog, or even knew her for one day can get really personal with her. Perhaps it is her down-to-earth-ready-to-listen personality!

what is s/he totally horrible at?:

Saying no, but who isn’t!

When that time of the month comes!

Fundamentally? Maybe accepting our son/daughter for being gay/lesbian. Haha. I have not decided on my response yet dear.

Nope. We trust each other despite the long distance.

Because Jolene Lai will become a household name in the future.

what is the coolest gift that s/he has ever given you?:

All the cards and self-made presents which she gave me since the Leo/Interact days. I keep most of them, although they may be falling apart as compacting all the 3D figures will dislocate them severely. The coolest though would be this jar full of love messages! Of course, glitter inside. There is also the photo album where she unveils her diary to me, that is pretty awesome!

taking pictures (diminishing too), stickers, eye-lashes, blog, bazaars, clothes and accessories!

why would s/he be dangerous?:

Because she can ruin your reputation through her blog. There was one time where she blogged about the bad service we experienced in a Mexican restaurant while in Langkawi, and apparently the person that we argued with at the restaurant left a comment on her blog! Upon checking, by just blogging about it, the entry was one of the first few link when you google the restaurant name!

(Jo: Buahahahha.. I just googled for “Little Mexican Langkawi”. Now first result in google! Woots!) 

what does s/he avoid at all costs?:

Pushy Christians.

what does s/he spend the most money on?:

Stickers, clothes, tofus, bazaars, DVD, occasionally gadgets!

describe his/her typical sunday:

University: Sleep in till late morning; lunch at Old Town or Pop Star; go home and do some online business e.g. stickers, facebook, msn and blog; watch some TVB drama or latest desperate housewives episode with Lie Yuen; nap a little; get ready for dinner; study and more online business before going to bed at 2/3 am.

tell us about a time s/he looked absolutely gorgeous:

When she dresses up for an event like high school prom and dental dinners.

what’s something about him/her that would surprise all of his/her friends?: 

That she is actually improving on her Mandarin fluency, ahead of her Subang darlings. You can exclude Melissa out since she went to China JUST to learn mandarin.

what do you love most about him/her?:

Her bubbly, be yourself, independent personality. You don’t need longer lashes to be beautiful baby.

(Jo: AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.. *melts* But i just placed orders for new eyelashes from an online boutique!) 

the biggest lesson you have learnt from loving your partner:

That the female species are of a higher order one than the male counterparts! Proper communication is very important and any miscommunication or misunderstanding have to be rectified from the start. 

I don’t need chocolate to feel happy today!
