Put it this way. That job and parking space is probably the most prominent part of their lives. Obviously they're protective of it.

Take Madame Librarian for existence...

jo: lol brilliant analogy. totally get your point.

i feel your pain babe. nepali guards are quite notorious for being like pillars and not letting you go by--we have them here too!

last week at uni during the semester break i wanted to park my car in the sessional staff carpark (because i.) i am kiamsiap; ii.) it was an effin' holiday, most sessionals don't come to uni then anyway; iii.) i am also a sessional staff mah!) and one of the malay guards said he'd be fine with it, but i'd have to watch out for that 'orang nepal tak reti bahasa'.

true enough this guy was yelling at me telling me i couldn't park there and asking me for ID--upon which i told him my ID was with security because they were reconfiguring it to give me swipe-card access to my office building (which was TRUE) and that i was a tutor (also true) but he kept insisting that I couldn't park there and asking for ID, repeat cycle.

BAH! in the end i sped off to the paid carpark because i think i was going to hit him, and it's not like i'm that impoverished that I cannot afford to pay for parking. then when i wanted to get into the gates EVENTHOUGH. THEY. SEE. ME. EVERYDAY. i was held up getting asked for ID! which was obviously still with the security main office. grr!

i hate incompetents.

jo: ISH, they don't understand the saving time concept. .. these incompetents should be made to carry little hand held nepalese-english electronic dictionaries to better facilitate communication. Ugh. but of course, would our universities pay for these little gadgets to tame the temper of their students(and staff)? I think not. :) Gotta bear with it then bitch to your friends.

security guards are not of higher positions than us, so are bus drivers and chefs (refer to my post, both of whom i got scolded from mercilessly). if they are rude to me, i will just keep telling myself that they will remain as guards/drivers/chefs forever while i'm not.

seriously i damn hate people like that. give them a little power and act like they own the world. i cannot respect anyone like that lor!

jo: YAAaa. I saw that post also. Damn kesian. So bloody rude. So unlike you to not fight back!

if they like power they should like respect too rite? some people are two daft to realise that the two traits go hand in hand.

Were these guards locals?

I find that sometimes foreign workers who work as guards are more polite than the locals. When I had to submit my IC at the entrance to the U.S. Embassy, the lady was sooo rude and BOSSY. I just asked a simple question ... she yelled, "Baca notis di atas!"

DUH - I saw the notice, but I just wanted to confirm. Obviously, I would not have asked if I was CONFUSED by their incomprehensible sign ... After I submitted my IC, she just threw the pass at me like a bone to a dog.

I didn't waste my breath on her as I figured that she would be the dumbest person on earth to think that she has higher authority over "normal citizens" ... Why? If anyone were to bomb the U.S. Embassy, they will be the first to die.

jo: the one who scolded me was local. Yeah, they are more polite because they know that they are from a foreign land - basic courtesy ma. wah, that's really too much.....why didn't you you complain to the management?

LOL LOL I laughed out loud when I read that line.. yes I agree. LOL LOL.

I just with I have the guts to do what you had just did. Some of the guard in my uni are very polite and nice, but some are very rude and ridiculous (they just ask us to follow rules that we never knew existed). They're very lucky that I haven't lose my cool yet...

jo: yeah, stupid damn rules.... =) of course, for every rude person out there, there are sure to be nice people. just unfortunate to meet the rude ones.

I'm glad you finally get it out. I tell you it'll be worse if you have to pen up your frustration and walked away from the rude guard without voicing it out to your Deputy VC.

I had an experience to date I still regret for not having my guts to retort to a jerk decades (well, 20 yrs to be exact) ago. :-P

I went for my first interview in a posh hotel and the receptionist asked a few of us interviewees to have a seat on the sofa. Then the SOB of a manager came back and barked at us.... "Itu sofa bukan untuk you all duduk mia..."

I was too scared back then to retort him. I still regret... I wasn't really that good with all the DNMCH back then.. :-P

As for your case, good for you! :-)

jo: heya Helen!=) Lol...i must be damn good at acronyms. That's Diu Na Ma Chau Hais...am i rite?:P

Wah... your years of pent up "tam hei" looks quite bad to me. Just coz some people is of a higher ranking they are so rude hor? I don't get why people are like that. UGhHHh.

Yeah..at least Deputy VC is a very nice man. That's what I call good customer relations. I pay the uni good money for a good education. The guards should learn to treat me like a human being. You think the guards at a hotel dare to scold their customers like that?
