Blogshop owners in the Malaysian blogshopping scene are usually girls in their twenties (college/uni students or young working adults) who own a blog where they put up products to sell. Most choose to sell clothes, shoes, bags and accessories and some do handmade items as well. I ventured down a road less taken and found my calling in stickers. The Sticker Monster is two years old already.
Time flies.
Honestly, the money is not consistent but it is a total enjoyment seeing all the colourful stickers that I manage to take in. It is just enough to pay the bills on a monthly basis but to go on holidays or to really make a living out of it? Of course not!!
However, some blogshops go on to become real online stores and they actually make enough to quit their full time jobs to focus on the business entirely!
Then there are times when a bazaar crops up and invites you to be part of it (The usual rates are RM70-80 but more sought after bazaar spots have a higher going rate). I don’t know about clothes lah but back in the glamourous days of Bijou Bazaar, a pioneer in the bazaar-online blogshop scene, stalls can make up to a thousand ringgit in one afternoon.
As for my stickers, the best I ever got was about RM500. The worst? LOL A profit of RM2! Sales was terrible and the rental was expensive. Walked around the other stalls and bought RM30+ worth of hairbands and thus the RM2 profit after sitting there for a whole afternoon.
So here is my recap of my bazaar experience at MOS Euphoria’s/A Shopaholic’s Den’s Too Hot 2 Handle:
The night before, I took out all my stickers from their respective plastic bags and arranged them properly in the box so I did not have to do this at the bazaar the next day.

Sensing the excitement in the air, Angel loves to be in the thick of things and decided to sit right in the middle of my sticker mess.
Whenever I am working on something, she will come and sit right in the middle. If it is soft, she will fall asleep on the pile.
Like how she did with my pompoms which I was working on the night before for my faculty’s sports week (held this week). Mel laughed so hard when I told her I was going to be a cheerleader.

-____- So comfortable right?

She won’t get off no matter how many times I ask her to.

After awhile I decided to give her paperweight duties. She fell asleep and her paws were easily lifted up without rousing the sleeping dog. So one paw held down one stack of plastic bags from a certain supplier and the other paw did the same for another supplier’s stocks.
When that was done, I had to take out my dad’s tool box and find a spanner, learn how to use it and dismantle my mum’s metal clothes hanger. Rolled it out to the front door to make things easier in the morning. Asked mum for some crystal bowls for my display, packed the essentials like strings, markers, plastic bags among the usual sticker stuff.
As I had yet to finish with some sticker inventory work, I was up till almost 3.30am keying in codes and taking photographs with my eyeballs blurring with eye shit because sleep was much needed.
I surprised myself by waking up with exactly enough time to wash my hair, blow dry and have my full make up done. *pats self on the back* This would be the third time this year where I put on make-up. What is happening to me?! Too comfortable with my own face?! How can that be?!?
So hell basically starts after colouring my eyebrows (last make-up step). I drag the plastic bag containing my plastic bags for customers, record book, calculator, scissors, cellophane tape, strings, corkboard pins, disposable chopsticks and plasticine.
I start by trying my best to stuff the clothes rack in to the car with plenty of huffing and puffing and maneuvering, sweating under the slight morning drizzle. I then make countless trips by first putting my biggest sticker box in the boot, followed by my smaller sticker box (i usually have two more small sticker boxes but since I can fit everything into one big box and small box, I guess this is good news which means my stocks are actually dwindling!), then my big carry all with all the random crap a sticker stall could possibly need. Mum’s precious crystal bowls clinging in another bag, settled into the backseat. Kicked two nice heels into the backseat while I put on my 3 year old slippers to drive (and for the many trips up to the stall and down to the carpark).
Finally settled into the driver’s seat. Checked my make-up. Okay, still presentable.
Drove to the petrol station to pump petrol, bought my lunch for the day (coconut buns ftw and mineral water), took out some cash from the ATM. Just in case I saw something nice at the bazaar but I hardly had time to wander around.
Upon reaching Sunway Hotel, I had to make like a thousand trips from the carpark to Euphoria where the bazaar was held, lugging my million and one things. By the third round, I was a sweaty mess.
I looked in the mirror and a gunk of whitish stuff was accumulating on my upper lash line. It looked like eyelash glue applied directly onto my lashes but the problem was I did not even put my falsies on so this was beyond gross!! Melted eye concealer, sliding off my lids because of the sweat and then settling on my lashes!
But the show must go on.
I dragged my mum’s clothes hanger up the stairs and a fellow blogshop owner helped me hoist it up and had to wait for me when I went “oh fuck oh fuck, my eyeshadow just went into my eye” and had to stare at the ceiling and blink furiously for a few seconds. The kind stranger stood there waiting for awhile and then we continued our long tedious journey.
Throughout the arduous process, there were many other blog shop owners who were trudging up with their super big suitcases. Since they were selling clothes, they probably have it far worse than me. Sucks to be them!
After getting everything up to my store, it was time to open up my cloth trays (damn useful) and place the stickers accordingly. Epoxy stickers, furry stickers, big puffy stickers, bling stickers etc.
My display was a little different this time around!

I used my mum’s disposable chopsticks, stuck tiny colour papers on it with the stickers’ description and price on it, propped it onto a plasticine and there you have it! A sign with a stand!
My mum’s crystal bowl were used to keep my decoden stuff. Yeap, they finally arrived. Pictures up on the blog soon!

Nice right?!? So many girls came by to run their fingers through them. I hope interest means good. Damn supplier won’t let me take less than 100 pieces per design.

Clearing out the old stocks. I have plenty new stocks at home which I didn’t want to bring because then they would be distracted by the new ones and my old stock would be like old maids left on the shelf.

I feel so smart this time around. I bought two plastic corrugated er..plastic boards(?) in pink and blue. Stuck corkboard pins into it and hung the stickers all up.
When that was done, I could finally rest. I really wanted to walk around but didn’t because I did not have a friend with me this round. Previous unfortunate souls were such as my mum, Chee Kiang, Mel and Esther. Which is good also since I was not tempted to buy anything.
With the little bit of clothes I had on, I was shivering and tweeted, “Fucking cold in Euphoria!! Any blogshop selling jackets?!?” Too bad the event did not have a hashtag or it would have been awesome communicating with the other sellers.
I saw a few familiar faces like Leeza from Tasty Cherry Chapstick and Jeremy from My Favouritees. Grace from Lush Serendipity is also a familiar face but it was only this round that we got acquainted. Tiffany from Soak Republic was talking to me at my car…..and I really forgot if we have met or not.
:( I AM HORRIBLE LIKE THIS.
:(:( So I saw her earring carousels and I stupidly asked (to make conversation), “Oh…..you sell accessories!” She gave me an ‘are you kidding me’ look, “I am from Soak Republic la!!”
:( I only dealt with Pei Shan (extra remember her because of the same chinese name) before when I reviewed some of their products and only saw Tiffany at previous bazaars.
:( My bad. Awesome stuff..too gorgeous. I lost one bracelet during a drunken night out though.
Tiffany wasn’t the first victim of my lousiness in remembering people.
It is not that I don’t care for the people that I meet, but I just have such terrible memory!
Quite a few people walked pass my booth or stopped and said, “HI Jolene!!” and I waved back, “Hi!!! How have you been?” without a clue who they are.
As for old school friends, there were too many that came by my booth! They didn’t even know I would be there that day! The first would be Evelyn who was my senior from school, Chung Lern and his girlfriend Stephanie (whom I bumped into at Daiso Curve exactly a week ago), Kok Ben, Sze May (a junior whom I didn’t recognize because of her funky hair cut. Had to ask her, “Sorry you are?” Malu sial……she was one of the faithful Interact Club juniors), Pui Mun and college friend Matt Ho plus primary school classmate Wayne Adam!!
Bloggers friends too, the usual Kelli, Hsu Jen, Nigel and David who are usually there at every bazaar that I am at! Plus Jess whom I was supposed to send stickers too! Arghh! If only I brought it along, I could have passed it to her. Vivien, Ginny and Natalie were there too!

With Cze-Yin who came with almost her entire family.
And Cze-yin not counted as “wah such a coincidence ah!” because I asked her to come if she was free to teman me jaga stall. She just came to shop and sit with me for awhile. LOL.
There were also a few who came up to me and told me that they read my blog. Some had to pick up my namecard and say, “OHhhh I read your blog.” Hahaha, not instant recognition, but still good enough! So touched!
) Thank you my silent readers!

With Kelli!

Trying to get a wider shot of my stall.

<3

With the RM19 shawl I bought from the blogshop opposite mine. I’m holding up the Swarovski grade crystals which I just received from my suppliers. SO LOVE…!!!

Here’s the only photo of the rest of the bazaar. Apparently there was a long line at the entrance waiting to get in! Didn’t expect the bazaar to be this hot!

My decoden pieces!! Cute right?:)

With Hsu Jen.

Chung Lern and Stephanie.

Yien Yee, the smart girl who runs A Shopaholic’s Den. She was pretty much the bazaar’s organizer though it is an event under Euphoria.

With Wayne and Matt who happen to be colleagues now!! What a small world.
One was my class monitor in standard one who threatened to write my name if I spoke another word when the teacher was not in and the other I met in college when I did the make-up for the cast members of a play by the Taylor’s College Society of Performing Arts.
After repeatedly explaining the joys of decoden and bling bling stickers to all who stopped by to oooh and aaaah, it was finally time to go home at 6pm. Since I was all alone, I had to AGAIN make the countless trip up and down.
If my day at the bazaar with all those familiar faces walking by wasn’t enough to make me feel that Subang is a really small place, Justin and Ada were in the car opposite mine. Can’t run away from familiar faces.
Seeing me struggle with my boxes, one of the waiters helped me to carry it all down to my car. “I help you because I like you! You know my name or not?” he said. I was like, “Okaaay…….” but still have to give tips lah. Coz cannot assume people think you’re a lenglui and just play the lady in distress card right?
So I played the lady in distress who will still give him RM5 tips anyway. He took it immediately. Right then…:\
Compliments and help were much appreciated anyway.
Finally back in my car at about 7.15pm with my freebra sliding off my chest due to sweat (yes I know I am the most disgusting girl in the world but such is life) so the bra sat next to me in the passenger seat as I made my way home.
The end.

I cannot begin to tell you how very tired I am. There are days when I think everything in my life is going smoothly like how I managed to do a core build-up, access the canal and get the working length of an anterior tooth all in one session which is considered quite a feat for myself since my previous molar and premolar root canal treatments have always been too tedious to do due to poor visibility and dentist lousility. If that is even a word. Might I add, the IOPA came out looking pretty good, without any comments from the lecturer, which usually means no problem. A really really good day, as I made a rubber dam joke and my lecturer gave a hearty laugh and said good one! I have never heard him laugh with so much happiness before, haha. I was even extremely lucky to get ANOTHER pulpotomy case to do in the afternoon. There was a pulp polyp and I excavated it. I think I was more afraid than my kid patient.
Then there are bad days. Like when my macbookpro’s trackpad fucks up on me and the laptop was sent to the service center for five days. Or whatever gadget that falls sick, it will totally ruin my day/week. Thankfully interpersonal relationship dramas have been kept to a bare minimum in the past few months – everyone’s behaving well. Myself included. I get pissed off at gadgets more than people.
And I am also having a super hard time trying to do up my sticker monster store. I am not even sure if I want to have a store now.
Oh right, one more bad thing for a bad day. Damn damn damn DAMN Bangkok ‘peaceful protests’ which caused me to burn my air tickets and miss out on my beautiful hotel room (I mentioned about how the walls are painted in bright pink, yellow and orange right? As in, colour themes for individual rooms right?).
Just a bad time to go. Please please please please I hope I can go when I graduate. I hope I have time.
So, time to travel back in time again.
During my UK trip in August 2009..
These are pictures from my 5th day in UK.

Went over to Grandma Doris’ place. A plot of land to remember Grandpa Dennis with. We went to visit his cemetery a couple of weeks later as well. I’ve never actually called a cemetery beautiful but it sure beats our Bukit whatevers. Soft grass that suburban Malaysian family homes like to grow, beautiful trees without overbearing fragrances, strong winds that blow at your coat tails and all who were buried there were literally pushing daisies. Daisies everywhere! Garden accessories were placed all over the tomb stone. Garden gnomes, colourful windmills, the deceased favourite flowers growing at the grave… very peaceful.

Grandma Doris is really proud of her green house! I can’t remember what else she grew in there (for god’s sake it was in August 2009 T_T) but if I recall, there were bell peppers and definitely some tomatoes too.

Look at her oddly shaped and juicy tomatoes!

SO CUTE RIGHT?!

Uncle Terry explained that it was to scrub the mud off your shoes before you went into the house.

See what I found on her kitchen table?!?!
This is a photo of my family back in the late 70s.
top l-r: Uncle Terry, Kooma, Kaima, Dad
bottom l-r: Mama, Taitai (granddad’s mum) and Yeahyeah.
Don’t think my dad met my mum yet at that time..but Kaima already met Kaiyeah! hehe just that he hasn’t gotten the parental approval to join the family photo.

Grandma Doris’ house is full of trinkets and she said she had a gift for me. A precious porcelain doll! So dainty!!

I can never get over the big puffy dandelions.

Fly, fly away!

Lunch back home was Uncle Terry’s homemade pizza. Tomatoes that you saw in his hands earlier now sliced and oven baked with pineapples, some cheese, pepperoni and a thin crust. MMmm.

Later that afternoon was my maiden trip into London!! Can you believe how excited I was? It was like going into New York, something you have heard so much about for your entire life and never ever imagined that you would walk those streets one day. Dad was worried because I had never taken the train down to London before, but I think with my pretty modest grasp of the english language, I should be able to read some signs and hopefully approach a person or two for help if I was lost. =\

A LONDON TRAIN STATION! <3 not quite the Underground, but still!! It rained for a bit like how the Brits always complain about, but it got warm again. Was damn cold when it rained!

Old guy enjoying his yoghurt. I was going down to London which was 45 minutes away to meet up with Sush, Chun Guan and Adrian. On the way down to London, Nien (who was touring Paris at that time) messaged me about souvenirs for our classmates. I thought it was pretty cool that I had a fellow classmate who was also touring Europe at that time!

People actually bring bikes into the train!

Me looking disheveled after the rain. The red scarf was bundled in by Uncle Terry who put quite a lot of effort into making me look warm enough for my dad to feel okay about me going out in the cold (as cold as a Malaysian would think).

I was also going down to meet a customer at Victoria Station!!! Well those of you who already know about me going all the way to the UK to cod, old news. But those who don’t, well YEAH:D A lady from the US wanted me to send a packet of stickers to her niece in the UK. I was expecting a 15 year old girl or something but turns out she was a nine year old accompanied by her aunt.
Awww.

Passed by some fields while on the way down.

Alexa and her stickers!!

Alexa and her aunt, sister of my customer in the US.
So glad Alexa loves the stickers. They wrote an email saying that all her little friends at school were so envious! (hopefully she helped to promote The Sticker Monster!!)
oooh, ooh.. that’s Victoria Station by the way! <3

And what’s that outside Victoria Station? *screams*

OMG THE UNDERGROUND SIGNS. *jakun mode on*

Not a good first photo of Adrian. Sorry Ad. Bwahahaha.
Adrian is in his 4th year now, doing medicine at Uni of Nottingham. So nice of him to come down to say hello!! *syok sendiri* I think he had to meet some other friends too la.

Some fresh products to make my grandmother happy. She loves fruits. Buying them, looking at them, she loves them!

A better photo of me. Adrian surprised me with his coooooool bikkkeerrrr boyyyy jackeeet. Soooo cooooooooool. I guess I don’t know much about cold weather fashion. But I drooled quite a bit when I checked out some girls at my bro’s uni in Manchester. Not at how sexy they were lah but at the boots!!! the jackets!!!! the gloves!!! the beanies!! the bags!!!(okay lah bags can use in Malaysia also). Damn jealous that I can never ooze style like that. My leggings only saw the light of day in the UK. When leggings were in, I stocked up in so many colours and whatever other designs that tickled my fancy along the way. Could never find the right time to wear it.

Big Ben? I don’t know..
Very disappointed that I didn’t get to see Big Ben or London Bridge.
When I was there I didn’t quite feel the need to see those monuments but after coming home to Malaysia, I was kicking myself quite a bit. Sigh.

Just had to snap one of this for the dental geek in me.

Double decker buses!! Not like we don’t have those in our region, but they did originate from the UK, no? Sush wanted to take me to ride in them and do a mini tour around the city but unfortunately family obligations were aplenty.

While on our way to meet up with the rest, I pestered Adrian to bring me to see Platform Nine and Three Quarters!

Much to our disappointment, that particular platform had to be accessed with a ticket which we didn’t want to waste our money on. Apparently there is a real trolley half submerged into the wall. In the Harry Potter movies, everything looks like they are in the 1800s. So it is hard to imagine that he really left for Hogwarts from the King’s Cross station which is bustling with activities come rush hour.

Not at all like in the 1800s.

A nicer photo of Adrian. Give chance.

LONDON CABS!!

Just one of the many pubs with the pretty flowers hanging down.

So iconic! I have this as a keychain!

Spot the Malaysian!!!

We met up with Chun Guan first before looking for Sush. That’s a photo with the Odeon, taken by some lousy random person who also happened to be a Malaysian.

You can tell how old these photos are.

Right. In the middle of London?

Finally a proper one with the Odeon!

Some celebrity I guess.

I had to take in all the gorgeously old architecture!

Even the KFC is at the bottom of some old grand building.

Discussing where Sush asked us to meet her.

Wrong angle of the famous landmark at Picadilly Circus.

Cloudy skies.

Still at Picadilly Circus!

HOLYMOTHER! Saw a Wira on the streets! Or is this a Perdana? Damn sparkling. Proton cars back home never gleam so much, why ah?

Don’t know whether busker (but no instrument), beggar or broke tourist (because of the backpack).

Sush brought us to a Korean restaurant. This is my miso soup!

Obligatory photos while waiting for the food to arrive.

Sush and me. I like Sush’s outfit!!

Something like steamboat but instead of a hot plate for you to fry your food,

Some noodle dish.

Chun Guan’s cute smile with an atas looking waiter at the back.

Had to have a group photo all the way in London!

Camwhored a little bit more.

With my darling Sush.

Blue and blue!

Myself and Adrian.

Group photo without the help of anyone nearby.

We made our way over to Chinatown.

Shady looking alley.

So suggestive..

How does that even make smoking fun? Stop already!

I HAD to make a trip to one of the shops in Soho!

Chinatown!! I didn’t know it was this small though. I thought it was far bigger than this.

Being excited with Sush who just layan me only.

Diddling the lion statues at Chinatown. Might get struck by lightning for doing this.

walking away from Chinatown! I love this shot!

Walking back to the tube and stopping to camwhore.

One more!

Amidst the old architecture there were some new buildings too!

Didn’t know Ripley’s Believe It Or Not came from England.

Posing with the famous Underground tube.

Victoria Station!!

Nice candid shot of the two boys.

Sush and I with a very important sign at the back of me. It was calling out to me.

My brother just arrived from Malaysia that night and so there was a small dinner to welcome him to UK. Hehe. A bit of a visa screw up, long story, so we were there for four days without him.

Hi Mervyn!

L-r: Aunty Betty, Uncle Steven, Dad, Me

Dinner was at a small Italian restaurant down the road (complete with Italian chef who is also the owner coming out to exchange pleasantries and mope about slow business.)

Mussels that my Uncle Terry raves about.

I think it was my Carbonara. I am so unadventurous.

Quiche? Not sure.

Someone’s chicken stew..beef stew.. but yums!!

A plater of cheese for everyone!
Damnit, I am hungry now.

Sometime Back In December 2009
Welcome back to the time traveling blog!
Being impressionable 12 year olds in the late 90s, karaoke sessions meant a lot to us girls. Whenever we had the chance, we’d go “Oi tonight cheong k” and in half an hour we’d be belting out to emo boyband songs or dancing on the chairs to Ricky Martin’s Living La Vida Loca. Sometimes slutting it up to any Britney song, past or present.

Min Dee and Mun Teng! Min Dee handles all the Japanese songs and Mun Teng is seriously an artiste waiting to be discovered.

It was the December holidays where everyone was around, even Esther’s darling Shawn came up from Singapore. This is him being shy.

Myself and Mel yang layan. Karaoking is not her cup of tea but she was nice enough to keep the rest of us company.

Min Dee and Sush!

Mel must have been rolling her eyes at Esther and Shawn’s PDA. Not much what…:)

Chee Kiang came straight from Singapore right after his internship hence the working clothes. I like it when he has on his long shirt and slacks. Purrrrrr.

The December holidays was very laid back for me as you can see. For the first time in a long time, I spent the entire span of my holiday just chilling in Subang. I know lah as if I’m some jet setter but what to do!! Holidays are so few and far in between and so they have to be made use for awesome traveling plans. Speaking of traveling, I’m going to Bangkok AGAIN in three weeks. Can’t wait!! I’m actually more excited about my hotel room than the shopping. This means that the hotel room is SO friggin’ awesome that it can top shopping. Very impossible kan? But you will see the beautiful photos later. Cheap and beautiful, that’s my motto.
Oh that picture with Chee Kiang? That’s us sitting on the bench in his garden. Just trying to capture more pictures together because I realize that we’re both growing old, so better record more of ourselves age 22 and 23 before we sag into our mid 20s.

Also to showcase my new glasses (which I now hate). He had thicker black glasses before too and we look like we have couple glasses.

Haih suits him more right?

One without!

<3

Ahhh!! Perhaps my favouritest part of the holiday! Mel and her Sketch-a-Sketch! She made Dennis buy it for her when they were in Toys R Us (don’t ask) for Christmas. We also want leh Dennis. Tak aci.

She thinks it’s damn useful because she can just put it at her office table and scribble to whoever who talks to her without needing to say anything. This is her sad face.

Shawn was our chi mui for that few days. Just like how Chee Kiang sometimes is. It’s just a nice title for them because us girlfriends would like them to come and spend some quality time with our best friends.

Sush’s awesome red velvet cupcakes. She makes it with cheese icing. So so so delicious! I love you Sush!

The baking goddess.

Mun Teng and her busy phone.

Must have been another one of my moments where I piss Sush off.

Esther’s WOW face.

Using Malay words on Shawn because he is Singaporean and doesn’t know better.

Trying to understand the malay word.

Esther may be a lil dylexic because she wanted Shawn to hold the sign pointing to her, calling herself bodoh, but she kept drawing the arrow to Shawn, so Shawn one upped her and put his arm around her and the arrow was right again. That’s Esther being shy at her blurness.

Another genius way to use the Sketch-a-Sketch!
If a guy is grinding up behind you on the dance floor, your girls from across the room can tell you whether the guy is hot or not. So this is the “NO NO GET OUT OF THERE HE IS MOLESTING YOU!!” sign.

This is the “By all means, molest him back!! He hot!! Psst!!” sign. AIr liur meleleh, ada fahamkah lukisan saya?

Esther with a kiss to her cheek.

One of Esther’s favourite sayings.

Can’t remember why already but isn’t it such a nice picture?:)

I draw what I eat.

The famous “Such Is Life” quip with the correct facial expression.

Not getting it right..

Oooh ooh Mun Teng’s turn to draw.

-___________-

Mel’s puzzled look.

I drew a picture of Mel but she doesn’t think it looks like her. I think I’m quite the artist, don’t you think so?

This is her “Ya sure Jo” look.

The photo which doesn’t have much meaning.

I drew something really rude.

Ta-da.

I think we were talking about the number of facebook friends we had. Ahem ahem ahem ahem cough cough cough hackkkkk.

One of them must have pissed me off. Mel loved it, she’s gonna draw it the next time someone cuts into her lane on the road.

To show you that I am not that crude but am actually angelic when I want to be.

Talking about the following day’s clubbing session.

Sush and her ear pulling.

Mel and her multicoloured balls.. ahhahahahahh got inside joke..ahhh i wish i could share it..lolololololol.

Bang balls. Bang balls, for those who don’t know, means sit around doing nothing.

Chow Chee Bye!
None of them understood it. Okay see, shit is smelly and chow is smelly in cantonese. The half a love means half of my love which means half of Chee Kiang which just means CHEE. Then there’s the hand waving which is Bye.
So you get Chow Chee Bye. If your chinese vulgarities suck, it means smelly vagina.

Mun Teng sapuing the rest of the watermelon.

Esther’s drawings all damn innocent one la.

HAHAHA i drew that cone shaped thing, nothing dirty don’t worry, supposed to be the Roti Tisu dripping in condense milk that we usually eat at our favourite mamak place in SS19. Shawn’s like, “What’s that?”

Mun Teng raises our hopes up.

But to draw a flasher, this is the way.

HAHA Mel’s version of a black face.

But better give the original black face to hold. This girl used to come in to school every morning in form3 slamming her books on the table. We did not dare talk to her until she had something to eat during recess and was in a better mood.

I don’t know what they meant, I pose only.

So Mel.
There’s still the photos from the Christmas Party at my house, New Year’s eve… and oh god Chinese New Year. Another day, another day.

Updated The Sticker Monster Blog:
(click on the images to go to the posts!)

*********
Sometime back in August 2009
By the time I’m done with the UK Trip blog posts, I may have gotten married and migrated there on something.
So Day 4! Wow! (I stayed for a month T_T)
My Uncle Terry and his best friend Uncle Steve took the family to a port south of London called Worthing. It was a cloudy day as you can see from the pictures with the wind blowing our hair into a frenzy. It was one of the coldest day for me in England although it was summer! I still want to see winter in the UK though. To see the entire place blanketed in snow would be amazing!

All bundled up with Mum and grandma.

A few hotels line the beach with quaint coffee houses.

Grandma and her wind blown hair.

I know sport shoes don’t go so well with leggings but a girl shouldn’t suffer in the cold.

Just me trying to be artsy fartsy as a person cycles by.

So apparently that sea stretches out to America. Or something.

Mum having her karaoke video moment.

The wind made mum’s hair look like Diana Ross’ and I thought it was a really cool look!

The grandmas got along really well! They keep forgetting each other’s names though.

As you can see, my dad and his DSLR were practically inseparable throughout the trip. Though he did cool off a little towards the end of the month.

What a lovely day to bring the laptop out to the beach!

The seagull wonders if his loot will be good today with the choppy waters.

Clearly ecstatic to be in the UK!

I totally loved what the wind did with my hair and the many opportunities it gave me.

Dad and his models.

An out of place cottage-y place.

It was a common thing over there. Every other park I went to had benches with plaques on them.

Some of the benches are used to commemorate loved ones.

I think I already mentioned this but the dandelions in the UK are so big and puffy! Almost possible to apply blusher with it.

See the floating pollen near my forehead. Like Avatar!

Ahhhh!~

Awwwwww <3

Hello I am Medusa.

Instead of sand the entire stretch is covered in pebbles. Thought this rusty old chain looked gorgeous against the acres and acres of pebbles.

Right.. What’s with the dates? Something to do with summer time?

This crafty looking signboard caught my eye!

Worthing must be a lovely neighbourhood with a quiet little arts and craft centre for families to spend the afternoon.

Patches!!

He looks like he was about to go into Dog Detective mode.

Somemore stand so straight!

Check out the hair now! The wind was getting mad.

FIREBALL! RARR!

Oh no I look like I have udders.

Nice.

Not a decoration, but a real bird.

Dad’s karaoke moment.

Grandma Doris saw me taking a photo with the ice cream cone and hurried over to join me. So this totally eliminated all provocative poses with my tongue licking the tip of the ice-cream.

Ice cream for a cold summer day!

Crossing the road over to the shops.

Strictly for princesses.

After strolling through the shops in Worthing, we had lunch at Macari’s!

It was my first time having real fish and chips in England!

Ice-cream toppings above the ice-cream bar.

Even the coloured rice is different in the UK! All pastel and soft.

Marshmallows on your ice-cream?

Long time no see real fish and chips!! The last time I had authentic fish and chip was when I was like, 7 years old in Perth! Not a fan of chunky fries though but I finished every last piece. Not proud of myself at all.

A dish that Uncle Terry and Uncle Steve seem to love a lot – mashed peas. Nice meh?

Group photo!

One of the many signboards at any given intersection.

I like how they decorate the store fronts in the UK. Even the simplest type of store puts so much effort into drawing the customers to have a closer look.

See what I mean? This is just a tiny convenience store.

CANDIES! I went crazy looking at all the colours in the candy store!

So many sweets..how to choose?

A scene taken right out of one of my many childhood story books.

These are Worthing rocks!

Uncle Steve bought a whole stack for us. Rock candies are canes with a design in it that spans the entire length. You chop it into tiny pieces to suck on. When I went for the Nuffnang Blog Awards, rock candies were served in a tiny glass jar. Delicious but rock candies can cut your tongue and make you bleed so be very careful when you suck on it. The sharp bits of the inner design can really hurt you after sucking for a bit.

An example of a design on a rock candy.

Designed like liquorice candy.

More colours which are not actually sweets.

Cookies and a hot cashier girl! That’s Uncle Steve paying for the Worthing Rocks.

Popo looks on in fascination at all the candies!

AHHHH!! I bought some liquorice candy having seen them in my story books for a better part of my childhood but never had the chance to have any. Tasted one, hated it all.

Snapping a photo of some hot brit boys while pretending to take a photo of the beautiful bush.

Dad in the streets of Worthing.

I love the architecture! All narrow and different from each other.

SO LOVE!! If this design was used to bling a handphone, girls would go mad!

Like me!

Mum takes time out to touch up her gloss.

I hardly went to any malls in the UK as most of the shops are located on streets.

Grandma Doris has a word with her son.

I went into Claire’s! The colours, as usual, caught my eye. I didn’t get myself anything as I couldn’t bear to spend on what I would later on consider to be junk. But the colours! OMG!

*_*

Hairbands in every colour and texture imaginable.

Every shop is so specific! This is a greeting cards store.

Wanted to get a picture of the wrapping paper up close but was afraid to aggravate the shop keeper.

Strangely, the streets leading back to the car was devoid of people.

Some charity shops.

Found this at the charity shop! Little clothes for dolls! Aw!

If only it was big enough for a life sized baby!

Some of the houses in the area. Loving the brick walls!

After coming back from the UK (for a very short span of time right after my trip), I was inspired to have my wooden door in my own home painted a bright solid colour!

Saw a police lady in action. Apparently a burglar was on the loose within the area.

That’s how the police in the Uk do their job.

Fresh products – my grandma’s version of a candy store.

I think these were some apartments in the area.

Hardly a sky scraper in the distance.

Saw some beautiful white trees along the highway.

After we got back, my ever so healthy Kooma took us for an evening stroll around the neighbourhood. So yeap, we were treated to plenty more flora.

We walked over to the bigger houses where there was more to see.

A pebbled church.

Kooma playing tour guide as she took us around her neighbourhood.

Lavendar smells SO heavenly. I plucked one and sniffed it the entire way.

A big fat toadstool! I expect the fairies to come out at night and have parties under it.

The family was refurbishing their home on their own.

I don’t know if these are poppy, I think I mentioned it before in a previous UK post. But it is so pretty right??

Little bumblebee is attracted to the lavendar plant as well!

We were really spoilt rotten during our trip there. Kooma made us some sort of sausage for dinner. Oh wait, I remember now. She called it Bangers and Mash!

The sausages were grilled and some onions were browned and sprinkled on top. A serving of mash potato and some boiled veggie. So very delicious! I came home (again) inspired to boil my vegetables. I did, once. Overboiled my brocolli and had yellow soggy mushy broccoli for dinner that one time.

The sausage has a thin crispy skin with a cushiony inside. Just the right amount of saltiness too! My mouth is watering at the memory of that dish.
My Kooma and Uncle Terry (Koo Cheong) are both awesome cooks. What they can make in the kitchen will cost me an arm and a leg at any fancy restaurant here at home. Can’t wait for the both of them to come back to pass on some skillz to me.
